Word
“On Earth as it is in Heaven…”
Matthew 6:10c
Daily Devotional
As Jesus completes this sentence, He gives us our target: that our desires would align with His will and that His Kingdom would come in every sphere of society. We remember that this world is not our final home and that our ultimate hope is in eternity with Him. Yet while we are here, our hearts ache for Him to bring heaven to earth, to make right what is broken and restore what has been lost.
It is easy for our prayer lives to become centered on our own wants or needs, but Jesus models something greater. He shows us the joy of interceding for those around Him and longing for the Father’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Prayer becomes the vehicle through which we partner with God to see His will done.
Scriptures for Today
As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.
Matthew 6:9-10
“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven…’”
Ephesians 1:3-10
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
Worship
Prayer
We will continue to use the Lord’s Prayer as a framework for prayer and intercession today.
Today’s focus is your LOCAL CHURCH.
Pray that God’s name would be hallowed in and through your local church, in its leaders, families and witness within the community. Ask that His Kingdom would come and His will would be done in your church, through its gatherings and its ministry to people. Pray for unity, provision, protection and boldness. Ask God to supply everything the church needs to fulfill its calling and to guard it from division and every scheme of the enemy.
Listen & Obey
Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:
- Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
- How do You want me to apply this truth today?
- Who do I need to share this with today?
