Word
“and forgive us our debts…”
Matthew 6:12a
Daily Devotional
To pray this next line of the Lord’s Prayer with authenticity means to humbly acknowledge our sin and admit our need for God’s forgiveness. It’s a reminder that there is only one who had been without sin (2 Corinthians 5:21), and that without the sacrifice of Jesus, we would be owed eternal death apart from God. His forgiveness wipes our slates clean and releases us from our debts to walk forward in full freedom and grace.
Scriptures for Today
As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.
Matthew 6:9-12
“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our debts…’”
1 John 1:7-9
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
2 Corinthians 5:21
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Worship
Prayer
We will continue to use the Lord’s Prayer as a framework for prayer and intercession today.
Today’s focus is your CITY.
Pray that God's name would be hallowed throughout your city, in its neighborhoods, businesses, institutions and people. Ask that His Kingdom would come and His will would be done in the decisions of local government, in schools, and in people of influence. Intercede for the poor, the marginalized and the lost within your city, that they would encounter God's love and provision. Pray against spiritual darkness and every evil thing, and ask God to raise up a Church in your city that is unified, bold and filled with the Spirit. Ask Him to revive and reform your city for His glory.
Listen & Obey
Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:
- Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
- How do You want me to apply this truth today?
- Who do I need to share this with today?
