Day 30 of 40 · Prayer

As We Also Have Forgiven Our Debtors

Word

“as we also have forgiven our debtors.”

Matthew 6:12b

Daily Devotional

This next line in the Lord’s Prayer teaches us that the forgiveness we receive is meant to be extended to others; it shows that forgiveness is directly tied to our relationship with God and our intimacy with Him (Matthew 6:14–15; Mark 11:25). Throughout Scripture, we are warned not to withhold forgiveness so that the Father may forgive our sins, and we are reminded that unforgiveness can take root as bitterness, which defiles and hinders spiritual growth (Hebrews 12:15; Ephesians 4:31–32).

As we grow in our devotion to God, the forgiveness we have received in Christ transforms us, and that same grace flows from us to others.

Scriptures for Today

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Matthew 6:9-12

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors…’”

Matthew 6:14-15

“For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.”

Mark 11:25

“Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions.”

Hebrews 12:15

“See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;”

Worship

Prayer

We will continue to use the Lord’s Prayer as a framework for prayer and intercession today.

Today’s focus is your NATION.

Pray that God's name would be exalted and feared across your nation. Ask that His Kingdom would come and His will would be done in government and leaders in all positions of authority. Intercede for national repentance and a spiritual awakening, that the nation would turn back to God. Pray that the love of Christ would overflow from the people of God in your country, reforming all the areas of society to see the redemption of Christ in the land through brave, strong and obedient disciples of Jesus. Ask God to protect your nation from corruption, moral decay and the influence of the enemy, and to raise up a generation of bold, Kingdom-minded men and women.

Listen & Obey

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?
  • Who do I need to share this with today?
