Day 11 of 40 · Worship

Your Love Is Better Than Life

Word

Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.

Psalm 63:3-4

Daily Devotional

A core motivation for why we engage in worship is because God loves us, and worship is one practice of expressing our gratitude, thankfulness and love back to Him. One way we can do that is through song; Psalm 63 says, ‘with singing lips my mouth will praise You.’ Singing is a unique expression of worship, and other places in Scripture affirm that when we lift up a song to the Lord, it delights His heart and is pleasing to Him (Hebrews 13:15-16, John 4:23-24).

Scriptures for Today

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Psalm 63:1-11

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.

I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.

Those who want to kill me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals.

But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.

Worship

Prayer

While you pray today, we encourage you to physically lift up your hands as an act of worship in accordance with Psalm 103.

Lord, You are my God, and I earnestly seek You; I thirst and long for You! Your love is better than life, and I glorify You today. I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied in You and will cling to You all the days of my life! I love You!

Listen & Obey

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?
  • Who do I need to share this with today?
