Day 23 of 40 · Prayer

Our Father

Word

“Our Father in heaven,…”

Matthew 6:9b

Daily Devotional

Prayer is essential for dialoguing with God and building relationship with Him. It is not just a way to ask for things, treating Him like a genie who grants wishes, nor is it an attempt to twist His arm to do what we want. Prayer serves many purposes; it allows us to commune with God, glorify Him by praying back His Word, worship Him, align our hearts with His will and intercede on behalf of others.

We see Jesus model all of these in the Lord’s Prayer, which makes it a powerful starting point for our own devotional life with God.

Scriptures for Today

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Matthew 6:9

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven…”

Luke 11:11-13

“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

1 John 3:1

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!

Worship

Prayer

We will continue to use the Lord’s Prayer as a framework for prayer and intercession today.

Today’s focus is your HOME (your habits, resources, etc.).

Pray that God's name would be hallowed in your home; that it would be a place of peace, prayer and His presence. Ask that His Kingdom would come and His will would be done in your daily rhythms of life and conversations in your home. Intercede for provision, protection and healing over your household, and ask God to guard it from every spiritual attack. Pray that God would use your resources and your habits to honor Him.

Listen & Obey

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?
  • Who do I need to share this with today?
