Day 15 of 40 · The Word

God-breathed

Word

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:14-17

Daily Devotional

We've completed our second week of daily devotions, learning the why behind daily devotions and using worship as a first building block! Just as worship is a foundational element of cultivating a relationship with God, the Word of God is foundational to a rich devotional life.

Days 15-21 will focus on the Word of God, using Scripture to pray, meditate on and enrich our daily devotionals.

The Bible is not simply a collection of traditional wisdom or filled with ancient religious teachings, but is authoritative, inspired by God and inerrant. The Bible is a real, historical book, written over a 1,500-year period from various authors, all maintaining the same overall theme and story. It contains 66 books, with 39 in the Old Testament written in Hebrew and 27 in the New Testament written in Greek. The Bible is also proved by sources outside of the Bible itself with confirmed history that corroborates stories, people and events that are described in the Bible. 1 Timothy 3:14-17 affirms that all Scripture, every word, is God-breathed, useful for ‘teaching, rebuking, correcting and training’. Because of this, we treat Scripture as our ultimate authority and believe it is essential for cultivating a devotional relationship with God.

Scriptures for Today

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Psalm 119:103

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Matthew 4:4

Jesus answered, “It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. '”

1 Peter 1:22 - 2

.3 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Worship

Prayer

Lord, Thank You for Your Word! I trust what You’ve revealed to us through the Scriptures and ask that You would use Your Word to teach me, train me, rebuke me and equip me for good works!

Listen & Obey

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?
  • Who do I need to share this with today?
