Day 32 of 40 · Prayer

But Deliver Us From The Evil One

Word

“but deliver us from the evil one.’”

Matthew 6:13b

Daily Devotional

The next portion of the Lord’s Prayer reminds us that we are not simply in a struggle with our flesh and temptations, but also warring against an evil one–Satan and his forces. Scripture tells us he is the antithesis of Christ, accusing us day and night before God (Revelation 12:10). But we know Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection defeated Satan and one day he will be thrown into the lake of fire for good (Revelation 20:10).

Scriptures for Today

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Matthew 6:9-13

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.’”

James 4:7

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Ephesians 6:10-18

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Worship

Prayer

We will continue to use The Lord’s Prayer as a framework for prayer and intercession today.

Today’s focus is the LOST.

Pray that God's name would be made known to those who have never heard and that prodigals would return home. Ask that His Kingdom would come and His will be done in their homes, hearts and their lives. Intercede specifically for the lost in your life, naming them before God and asking that their hearts would be softened and their eyes opened. Pray that God would orchestrate divine encounters and pursue these people with the power of the Holy Spirit, compelling their hearts to surrender to Him.

Listen & Obey

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?
  • Who do I need to share this with today?
Saved on this device only.
