Daily Devotional
Now that we’ve completed our first week of daily devotions and learned why we draw near to the Lord, our next section will focus on how to build a meaningful devotional life. One of the foundational pieces of cultivating a rich devotional life is through worshipping the Lord.
Days 8-14 will focus on integrating the spiritual discipline of worship, helping us deepen our affection for God and remind our souls who He is through song, prayer and declarations of truth.
Psalm 97 gives us three simple and profound truths that fuel our worship:
1. The Lord reigns.
2. This is joyful news worth celebrating.
3. Therefore, we worship Him!
Scriptures for Today
As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.
Psalm 97:1-12
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice.
Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side. His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles.
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all peoples see his glory. All who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols— worship him, all you gods! Zion hears and rejoices and the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments, Lord.
For you, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Light shines on the righteous and joy on the upright in heart.
Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous, and praise his holy name.

Lord, You reign! You are perfectly righteous and just; You are the Most High, over all the earth; You are exalted and there is none higher than You. Help me to love you and hate evil; guard my life and create in me a faithful disciple, delivering me from the hand of the wicked. Lord, you are righteous and I praise Your Holy name!
Listen & Obey
Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:
- Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
- How do You want me to apply this truth today?
- Who do I need to share this with today?
