Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer.

Acts 3:1

Daily Devotional

The vision of 40 Days of Devotion is to help you build a life-giving, intimate, daily devotional habit. But how do we cultivate one that is not only life-giving, but lifelong? One of the secrets to establishing this rhythm is practicing it within the context of community. In addition to walking it out with friends, we are also called to help others grow in their devotional lives. Just like the example from yesterday’s Scripture reading, it matters who we choose to walk with and who we choose to invest in.

The hope is that as we cultivate this devotional habit, the Lord will empower us to strengthen those around us and transform us to walk in a manner worthy of the calling He has placed on our lives for His Kingdom and glory.

Scriptures for Today

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

1 Thessalonians 1:7-12

But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children. Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us. For you recall, brethren, our labor and hardship, how working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers; just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children, so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

Luke 10:1

Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come.

Proverbs 27:17

Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another.

Worship

Prayer

Jesus, I love you. Today, let me be a pure hearted dwelling place for Your Spirit. Would you show me the friends You have called me to walk with in cultivating my devotional life

Listen & Obey

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?
  • Who do I need to share this with today?
